Film Combat Course
October 26th & 27th 2013
Ladies and gentleman, girls and boys,
Film Combat Course 2013
Many years ago I won a gold medal in an international kung fu competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with a three man fight routine. I was physically very proficient, so I could perform most skills from the martial arts movies with no problem and believed I would find fighting for camera easy. I went on to learn stage combat, which is a live performance of a choreographed fight routine, unarmed and armed. That was very straightforward. Next I worked on the West End stage, successfully choreographing mass battles and kung fu fights for live shows. Then I met my mentor, Mr Tim Condren, a stunt co-ordinator on over 60 films, who had worked with legends including Yakima Canutt, Michael Caine and Robert Mitchum. With all my experience, I thought film fighting would be a doddle. To my surprise I was hopeless and looked awful. This is where my journey in learning to fight for camera began. I learned that I was only part of the equation. There are talented people who will make you look like Jackie, Chuck or Bruce. Understanding the camera, the angles, the types of shot is as important as the combatants, if not more so.
So if you would like to come and learn the craft of fighting for camera, this October we will be running a two day fight course. We will go through the entire process and teach you how to fight (punches, kicks, slaps, knees, headbutts, hair drags, strangulations and gun and knife disarms), as well as safety techniques to keep you unbroken. We will also teach you how to plan and direct the action, and have a finished fight filmed and edited, with pictures too.
This course is for the following people:
Actors and actresses wanting to learn convincing violence
Directors who want to learn to film convincing action
Stunt trainees wanting to learn the tricks of the trade
If you want to star in your own little action flick
The course is held over two days in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, close to the tube station.
The course will be from 9am – 6pm Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th October 2013
If you would like a booking form please let us know ASAP.
